Some of the most beautiful and poetic language is found in the Psalms and the Song of Solomon. Whether you identify yourself as a Christian or not, you must agree that this is true. Words that instantly paint a picture in your mind while invoking strong emotion are the most powerful words and these words are scattered throughout these two books. The words themselves capture you even though the meaning is unclear at first. I came across a string of words while reading the Psalms and they truly struck me...
"Kiss the Son, lest He be angry..." (NKJV Psalm 2:12)
The margin of my Bible explains this line as meaning that one should embrace discipline and receive instruction from the Lord. My post here is not about theology, but by the power of words. The definition is lifeless, though it is important, it is not what one remembers. What is remembered is the image of kissing the very Son of God, what an incredible image! The meaning is far more important than the poetic language, but only beautiful words can truly reach our hearts.
